Adding Linux Containers to the Virtual Data Center
What exactly is a Linux Container?
Linux Container is an operating system-level virtualization method for running multiple isolated Linux systems (containers) on a host using a single Linux kernel. This differs from a Virtual Machine (VM), which uses all of the host’s available hardware resources. To put it simply, with a Virtual Machine, the host is effectively running two operating systems simultaneously.
Before adding a Linux Container to the Virtual Data Center on Cloudmatika, make sure you already have a control panel account on Cloudmatika. If not, please sign up via the following link: https://cloudmatika.co.id/
Here’s how to add a Linux Container to the Virtual Data Center (VDC) on Cloudmatika
- First, go to the website Cloudmatika
- Then click “Login” located at the top right
- After that, enter your username and password
- After logging in, ensure your Subscription menu is set to “CloudServer VDC (namadomain.com)“
- Click “Cloud” on the menu bar, then click “New Server.”
- Please fill in the details as desired, then click Next. Here is an explanation of the fields in the New Server menu:
| Parameter | Description |
| Server Name | The name to be assigned to the server. The server name must be unique and cannot be duplicated. The server name can contain letters, numbers, and hyphens, and must not exceed 63 characters. |
| Description | A description of the server |
| Backup Schedule | The schedule for performing server backups. |
| Specify Custom Hostname | Specify the server’s hostname. You can create a hostname using an FQDN, for example: server1.cloudmatika.com, or just the prefix, for example: server1. Note: To make the server accessible from an external network, you must select a domain in the Register in domain field. Otherwise, only servers on the same subnet can access it using the hostname. A hostname may contain numbers, letters, hyphens, and periods, and must not exceed 63 characters. If this field is left blank, the name you enter in the Server Name field will be used as the hostname. |
| Preset Configurations | A list of predefined configurations tailored to general server needs. This includes the required number of CPU cores, CPU frequency, disk space, and more, based on the selected server type. |
| CPU Cores | The number of CPUs on the server. |
| CPU Frequency | The CPU clock speed of the server. |
| Diskspace | The amount of disk capacity in gigabytes that will be allocated on the server. |
| RAM | The amount of memory that will be allocated on the server. |
| I Will Manage the OS Kernel | This is an option where you can create a virtual machine (by selecting this option) or a container (leave this option blank). |
| Operating System | The type of operating system to be used on the server. |
| Register in Domain | The domain where the server to be created will be registered. This field will have options if you register your DNS. If you do not select or do not have a domain in that option, only servers on the same subnet can access it using the server’s hostname. |
| Bandwith | Maximum bandwidth in Mbps. |
| Number of IPv4 Addresses | The number of public IPv4 addresses for the server. All your servers automatically have a private IPv4 address with speeds up to 10 Gbps. All your servers can communicate with each other using these private IPs, but if you do not add a public IP, your servers cannot be accessed from the internet. |
| Allow to Configure the Network Settings from Within the Server | By selecting this option, you can configure all network settings within your server, except for the IP address. If you do not select this option, Cloud Infrastructure will provide the configuration automatically. Currently, this option is only available for: Linux virtual machines and containers, Windows virtual machines |
| Estimated Monthly Price | The total monthly cost for the selected configuration. Note: The listed price does not include discounts or per-unit pricing if you use Business Automation features such as scaling up or down, so the final billed amount you receive may differ. |
*Note: For “I will manage the OS kernel”, do not check this box when creating a container
- After filling in all fields, continue by clicking Next
- Next, you will be asked to select the operating system you want to install in your Virtual Data Center, then click Next to continue
- You have finished installing the Linux Container on your Virtual Data Center
- Please wait a moment until the status changes to “Running,” as shown in the following image:
- For login information (username and password), please check the email address you used when registering with Cloudmatika.
